Exhaust System: Overview

The exhaust system of the vehicle is an assembly that takes care of the burnt gases that the engine produces. The exhaust gases from the cylinders are directed to the turbocharger, which increase the engine power.

These exhaust gases then travel through a catalytic converter which removes harmful elements including carbon monoxide and hydrogen monoxide which are converted into inert gases. The gases then pass through a silencer, which reduces engine noise.

Finally the exhaust gases exit via the rear silencer which carries gases away from the vehicle and the passengers inside. All of the components of an exhaust system are connected with a series of clamps, hangers, flanges and gaskets.

The Ingenium I4 2.0L Petrol exhaust system is manufactured from stainless steel and is attached to the underside of the vehicle body with mounting rubbers. The mounting rubbers connect the exhaust system hanger brackets to the vehicle underbody hanger brackets.

The Ingenium I4 2.0L Petrol exhaust system comprises three separate sections:

A front section comprising of a pre catalytic and a main catalytic converter.
A center section comprising of a flexible coupling, a center silencer and an intermediate pipe which is single or dual depending on engine variant.
A rear section comprising of one or two rear silencer assemblies, depends on the vehicle specification.

The exhaust system rear section comprises an active exhaust system. The active exhaust system provides a louder, richer, more exhilarating noise during performance driving.
