Adjusting The Drive Shaft
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2012 Porsche Cayman, 2012 Porsche Boxster, 2011 Porsche Cayman, 2011 Porsche Boxster, and 2010 Porsche Cayman. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Clamp the drive shaft in the vice with protective jaws.
- Measuring bridge 3167
must be positioned on the 3rd gear and then position the transmission housing on the special tool via the drive shaft.
- Measuring bridge 3167
- With a depth gauge, measure the dimension -a- from the housing to the lower drive shaft groove (e.g. dimension a = 28.5 mm).
- With a depth gauge, measure the dimension -b- from the housing to the contact surface of the ball bearing (e.g. dimension b = 26.8 mm).
- Determine dimension x for the thickness of the lower circlip (see No. 8 in → REMOVING TRANSMISSION HOUSING
).
Sample calculation of dimension x
x = a - b = 28.5 mm - 26.8 mm = 1.7 mm
- Determine the thickness of the circlip in accordance with the table.
Dimension x (in mm) Thickness of circlip (in mm) 1.48... 1.56 1.54 1.57... 1.65 1.63 1.66... 1.74 1.72 1.75... 1.83 1.81 1.84... 1.92 1.80 1.93... 2.01 1.99 2.02... 2.10 2.08 2.11... 2.20 2.17 2.21... 2.27 2.25 2.28... 2.35 2.33 - Force circlip and ball bearing onto the drive shaft with the driver sleeve 30-100 .
- Determine and use the thickest circlip that can still be used.
