Installing Front Brake Pads - Brake Calliper With Two Bars
- Before installing the brake pads, check the amount of wear on the brake discs. For details of minimum brake disc thickness, see → 4600TW TECHNICAL DATA/BRAKE WEAR LIMIT
- Push the brake pistons back into their original position using the piston reset tool Nr.144 .
- Fit new expanding spring on the brake calliper
- Fit brake pads.
Brake-piston damping plates/vibration balancers are not fitted.
- 4.1. Before fitting the brake pads listed below
, grease the piston contact surface -arrows-
on the backing plate using Interflon HT.
Part number for Interflon HT: 999.917.565.40 (150 ml tube)
These brake pads can be recognized by the small sliding plate -1- on the brake-pad backing plate
- 4.2. Brake pads with a large sliding plate -1-
on the brake-pad backing plate (Part Nos. 997.351.938.05 and 997.351.938.06) must not be greased (status as at 01.04.2009).
Reason: These brake pads (with a large sliding plate on the backing plate) have grease pockets between the brake-pad backing plate and the large sliding plate -1- .
As a result, it is no longer necessary to grease the contact surface on the brake pistons with Interflon HT.
- 4.3. Fit brake pads into the brake calliper
- 4.1. Before fitting the brake pads listed below
, grease the piston contact surface -arrows-
on the backing plate using Interflon HT.
- Fit brake calliper on the wheel carrier. Use new fastening screws -2-
. Tightening torque: 85 Nm (63 ftlb.)
Fit the holder -1- for the brake hose/brake line on the wheel carrier. Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
After fitting the brake calliper, fit the brake pads on the brake discs. Actuate the brake pedal several times for this purpose.
Then insert the warning contact wire and warning contacts -arrows-
- Check the brake fluid level and correct it if necessary. The brake fluid level must be between the MIN and MAX markings
