Installing Air Guide (Brake Air Duct) For Rear Brake Discs

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2013 Porsche 911, 2012 Porsche 911, 2011 Porsche 911, 2010 Porsche 911, and 2009 Porsche 911. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Fit the air guide -1-  on the wishbone -3-  .

    The air guides are supplied as an installation set with new GT vehicles (from 2010 model onwards).

    Requirements:  The area in which the parts will be attached must be clean (no dust).

    Preliminary work: When retrofitting the air guides -1-  on model year 2007 and 2008 GT3 vehicles and when replacing the air guide -1-  , attach (affix) the adhesive tape -2-  beforehand.

    Note the position of the adhesive tape (described under 1.1).

    For new vehicles (GT3 from 2010 model onwards)  , the adhesive tape -2-  is already attached (affixed) to the air guide.

    1. Air guide (brake air duct)
    2. Adhesive tape for the GT3 only (affixed to the air guide on new vehicles)
    3. Wishbone
    4. Holder (will be clipped and screwed to the air guide)
    5. Screws, M6 x 10/tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

    1. 1.1. On the GT3, attach (affix) the adhesive tape -2-  to the air guide (right and left side), if it is not already affixed. Position according to the drawing.

      This applies only to the GT3 (one-piece trailing arm). No adhesive tape is required on the GT3 RS (two-piece trailing arm). 

      2  - Adhesive tape

      X  - Dimension = 50 mm

      -Arrow-  - Centre of hump and opening (attachment points for holder) = center of adhesive tape

    2. 1.2. Position air guide -1-  with adhesive tape -2-  (adhesive tape only on the GT3/not on the GT3 RS) on the wishbone -3-  .

    3. 1.3. Clip holder -4-  to brake air guide -1-  and screw in/tighten two M6 screws -5-  .

      Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.).

  2. Install air guide on the other side of the vehicle.
  3. The following (additional work) must be done when retrofitting the air guides on model year 2007 and 2008 vehicles: 

    Replace cover plate for the rear right and left brake disc with cover plates used for the 2010 model onwards (these have the required cut-outs close to the brake air ducts).

    1. 3.1. Remove rear brake discs.

      → 465319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR BRAKE DISC 

      or

      → 465419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR PCCB BRAKE DISC 

    2. 3.2. Replace brake-disc cover plates at the left and right with the cover plates used from 2010 model onwards.

      Tightening torque for M6 fastening screws: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.).

    3. 3.3. Install rear brake discs.
