Removing Rear Drive Shaft
- Release and unclip the connector for the brake pad wear indicator -A- and remove it from the holder -B- .
- Loosen fastening screw -1-
on the holder for the brake pad wear indicator cable and brake line from the brake calliper.
NOTE: Removing/fitting wheels
- Risk of damage to (ceramic) brake discs
→ Carefully guide the wheel towards the wheel hub, thereby preventing any heavy impact on the (ceramic) brake disc.
- Evenly set back brake pads a little using water pump pliers.
Information
- Never use an impact bolter to loosen and tighten the brake calliper on the wheel bearing housing.
- Loosen fastening screws on the brake calliper -arrows- and remove brake calliper from the wheel carrier.
- Suspend the brake calliper at a suitable position in the wheel housing (do not open the brake hydraulic system!).
- Disconnect push-on connector -1- and detach bracket -2- from the wheel carrier.
- Disengage linkage -1- for the level sensor at the ball pin -2- .
- Puller set Nr.87-1 Pos.1 -1- must be fitted on the brake disc.
- Support wheel carrier using a suitable lever -2- on the outside in order to prevent the wheel carrier from tipping over.
- Screw in spindle -4- → Control value: +10 mm (-arrow- ).
- Unscrew and remove fastening screws -3- for the upper trailing arms and tie rod.
- Lower the lever -2-
slowly.
- 12.1. While tilting the wheel carrier with the spindle -4- , press the drive shaft back as far as required until it can be removed from the hub.
- Remove lever -2- .
- Tilt wheel carrier -1- downwards. Get a second fitter to hold the drive shaft -2- .
- Protect drive shaft using a suitable plastic tube and carefully set it down on the chassis subframe while performing the following work.
- Left side: Break off protective plastic ring -1- with a screwdriver.
- Lever the drive shaft out of the rear-axle transmission housing using two mounting levers, for example.IMPORTANT: Hold the drive shaft! In the event of unfavorable tolerances, the drive shaft might slip out.
