Removing Wheel Bearing Housing
- PASM (damping force adjustment) does not function
- Risk of damage to electric lines
→ Protect electric lines when removing and installing the spring strut.
→ Do not lift/transport the spring strut/vibration damper at the electric lines.
→ Do not damage electric lines when transporting, unpacking, storing or disassembling and assembling the spring strut.
- Open the safety clip on the combination plug connection at the wheel carrier and pull out the connectors (for the speed sensor and brake pad wear indicator).
Disconnect plug connection for damper adjustment (PASM) close to the combination plug connection.
Remove combination plug connection at the wheel carrier.
- Remove heat shield (curved) for brake disc (above the tie-rod end).
- Remove the following accessories at the wheel carrier/spring strut:
Remove holder for brake line/brake hose -1- at the wheel carrier.
Unclip brake pad wear indicator wire at the holder -3- . Loosen brake calliper -2- from the wheel carrier and attach it in the wheel arch.
Unclip cable on spring strut for PASM (damper adjustment) at the holder -3- . Remove clip -4- at the spring strut.
Loosen holder at the wheel carrier -5- .
Loosen connecting link (suspension/stabilizer) at the anti-roll bar -6- . Counter with a Torx T30 while doing this. Note position (for refitting)!
- Remove control arm spoiler (air guide for brake cooling) -1-
.
Loosen tie rod at the wheel carrier -2- . When loosening the lock nuts, counter with special tool screwdriver 9546 (Torx screwdriver) at the ball-joint pins.
Press off tie-rod ball joint -2- using special tool press-out tool 9560 . To prevent damage to the rubber boots of the ball joint, coat the rubber boots and the press-out tool in this area with tire mounting paste.
Remove threaded joint connecting trailing arm to diagonal arm -3- and front-axle carrier -4- .
- Open luggage compartment and remove cover over spring-strut supporting mount → 852219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COVER
.
Mark the installation position of the spring-strut supporting mount (position of the three collar nuts -arrows- ). Use a marking pen (board marker) to do this. Loosen lock nuts (three M8 nuts) at the spring-strut supporting mount -arrows- .
- Remove (pull out) spring strut with wheel carrier and trailing arm. Get a second person to help with this step.
- Loosen clamped connection between spring strut and wheel carrier (ball joint on suspension/stabilizer and one screw) -arrows- and pull spring strut out of the wheel carrier.
- Remove brake disc and brake cover plate.
- Unscrew lock nut from trailing arm (ball joint) using the socket-wrench insert with pivoting extension.
- Press out trailing arm (ball joint) using press-out tool 9729 (-D-
three-part press-out tool), as described below.
A shorter push rod -1- is also required for the 911 GT2 (997) and the 911 GT3 as of model year 2010.
This shorter push rod 9729/4 is used instead of the push rod that comes with press-out tool 9729.
- 10.1. Screw push rod -1- onto the thread of the axle joint. Use the shorter push rod 9729/4 for the 911 GT2 (997) and the 911 GT3 as of model year 2010 .
- 10.2. Insert pressure piece -2- .
- 10.3. Fix pressure piece -2- with centering piece -3- .
- 10.4. Turn in an anti-clockwise direction at the hexagon of the push rod -1- and press out the trailing arm (ball joint).
