Installing Front Drive Shaft

Use Optimoly HT to lightly grease the drive shaft thread and toothing.
- Carefully guide in the drive shaft from below. Do not damage the drive shaft and adjacent components.
- Fit the front-axle drive (front-axle final drive) if necessary (if it was loosened in order to remove the drive shaft).
- 2.1. Screw studs -C-
through the transmission support -A-
and into the front-axle cross member.
→ Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
- 2.2. Screw fastening nuts -B-
onto the studs and tighten them.
→ Tightening torque: 65 Nm (48 ftlb.)
- 2.3. Remove jack (used for support).
- 2.1. Screw studs -C-
through the transmission support -A-
and into the front-axle cross member.
- Fit front drive shaft on transmission side. To do this, screw in the six hexagon socket head bolts between the drive shaft and transmission flange and tighten the bolts. Counter at the wheel to prevent it from turning as well.
→ Tightening torque: 39 Nm (29 ftlb.)
- Secure the drive shafts at the wheel hub. Use a new lock nut.
When tightening, get another mechanic to help by operating the brake.
→ Tightening torque: 460 Nm (340 ftlb.)
