Installing Front Wheel Bearing
Information
- The wheel bearing must not come into contact with magnetic objects (e.g., magnetic screwdriver, magnet) .
- Screws and nuts are coated and must not be greased .
- Grease the toothing of the drive shaft slightly with aluminum paste Optimoly TA .
- Drive shafts must not be left hanging from the joint stop! Tie up .
- Use new screws and fastening nuts .
- Observe correct tightening torques . → 4X00IN TIGHTENING TORQUES FOR REAR AXLE
- Place the wheel bearing -1- at a centered position under the workshop press ram.
- Fit the wheel hub -2-
in the wheel bearing.
When doing so, make sure that the wheel hub is installed at the correct position in the wheel bearing → Pressing in wheel hub .
- Position a suitable pressure piece -3- flat on the wheel hub.
- Carefully press in the wheel hub until the pressure increases -A- (check the pressure gauge!).
- Fit the wheel bearing/wheel hub assembly in the wheel bearing housing and tighten the fastening screws to the prescribed tightening torque. → 4X00IN TIGHTENING TORQUES FOR FRONT AXLE
The fastening screws are tightened to the specified torque angle in Step 8.
- Grease the toothing with a little Optimoly TA aluminum paste and fit the drive shaft into the wheel bearing housing.
- The drive shaft must be pulled in as far as it will go using the fitting tool T10206
.
Pull the drive shaft into the wheel bearing housing.
- The drive shaft must be pulled in as far as it will go using the fitting tool T10206

- Grease the mounting-face ring of the axle nut with a little Optimoly TA aluminum paste. Screw on the axle nut.
- Following installation, the fastening screws still have to be tightened to the specified tightening torque

Proceed as follows:
- 8.1. Mark one tooth of the fastening screw and the wheel bearing housing -A- .
- 8.2. Starting from the marked tooth, count off four teeth anti-clockwise and also mark this tooth -B- .
- 8.3. Tighten the fastening screw -A-
until the second marking -1-
is aligned with the marking -2-
on the wheel bearing housing.
This corresponds to → Final tightening: 120°
