Removing Front Wheel Bearing Housing

Information 

• If assembly work was performed or parts replaced that affect the vehicle height, a complete wheel alignment is necessary  .
• Protect electric line when removing and installing the spring strut on vehicles with PASM  .
• Do not lift/transport the spring strut/vibration damper at the electric lines  .
• The ignition must be switched off before disconnecting the plug connection (PASM) for the spring strut  .
• The spring strut and wheel bearing housing are removed from the vehicle together  .
• A second mechanic is needed in order to remove the spring strut/wheel bearing housing  .

1. Remove rear brake calliper with line bracket.

   1. 1.1. Release and disconnect electric plug connection for rpm sensor -1-  .
   2. 1.2. Release and disconnect electric plug connection for PASM -2-  .
   3. 1.3. Unscrew and remove fastening screws -3-  securing holder to wheel bearing housing.
   4. 1.4. Evenly set back brake pads a little using water pump pliers.
   5. 1.5. Unscrew and remove fastening screws -arrows-  .

   6. 1.6. Remove the brake calliper together with the holder from the wheel bearing housing and hang it at a suitable position, e.g. using a piece of wire, in the wheel housing. Make sure that the brake pressure line is not strained.
2. Unscrew fastening screws -arrows-  and remove brake disc.

3. Remove connecting link -1-  from wheel bearing housing.

   1. 3.1. Screw off fastening nut -2-  and pull out connecting link -1-  .

      Counter the hexagon wrench face of the connecting link -arrow-  when loosening the fastening nut.

4. Loosen fastening nut on the tie-rod ball -1-  at the wheel bearing housing and press off ball joint using special tool press-out tool 9560  .

5. Remove lower trailing arm -5-  at the wheel carrier.

   1. 5.1. Remove level sensor linkage at the holder -1-  .
      1. 5.1.1. Screw off fastening nut and counter at the square part of the ball joint while doing this.
      2. 5.1.2. Pull linkage out of the holder.
   2. 5.2. Unscrew fastening screw -2-  .
6. Mark installation position of the spring-strut mount (position of the collar nuts -1-2-3-  ). Loosen lock nuts on the spring-strut mount.

   Secure the wheel bearing housing to prevent it from falling down!

7. Pull out/remove spring strut with wheel bearing housing.
8. Loosen clamped connection between spring strut and wheel bearing housing.

   1. 8.1. Unscrew fastening screw -3-  .
   2. 8.2. Pull spring strut out of the wheel carrier.
