Install The Front Wheel Bearing

Information 

  1. Press the wheel hub into the wheel bearing.
    1. Plunger
    2. Pressure plate VW 402 
    3. Wheel hub
    4. Wheel bearing
    5. Pressure plate VW 401

    1. 1.1. Fit the special tools as shown in the graphic → Press the wheel hub into the wheel bearing  .
    2. 1.2. Press the wheel hub into the wheel bearing.
  2. Insert the tension bolt -2-  in the wheel bearing -4-  with the wheel hub -3-  and tighten the new hexagon nut -1-  hand-tight.

  3. Install the wheel bearing in the wheel bearing housing.
    1. 3.1. Insert the wheel bearing in the wheel bearing housing.
      WARNING: Incorrect handling of safety bolts
      • Danger of injury
      • Loss of torque

      → Always use new fastening screws and nuts following removal.

      → Observe specified tightening torques.

      → Carry out a visual inspection of all re-used parts.

    2. 3.2. Tighten the fastening screws in the sequence -1, 2, 3, 4-  . Initial tightening 80 Nm (59 ftlb.) Final tightening +120°

    3. 3.3. Tighten the fastening screw -3-  securing the holder -2-  to the wheel bearing housing. Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.) 
    4. 3.4. Clip the electric line -1-  onto the holder.
