Install The Rear Wheel Bearing

  • Risk of squashing

→ Read specific safety information for the press.

→ Check that the press is working perfectly before use, particularly the safety components.

WARNING: Incorrect handling of safety bolts
  • Danger of injury
  • Loss of torque

→ Always use new fastening screws and nuts following removal.

→ Observe specified tightening torques.

→ Carry out a visual inspection of all re-used parts.

Information 

  1. Press the wheel hub into the wheel bearing.
    1. Plunger
    2. Pressure plate VW 402 
    3. Wheel hub
    4. Wheel bearing
    5. Pressure plate VW 401

    1. 1.1. Fit the special tools as shown in the graphic → Press the wheel hub into the wheel bearing  .
    2. 1.2. Press the wheel hub into the wheel bearing.
  2. Insert the wheel bearing with the wheel hub into the wheel bearing housing.
  3. Tighten the fastening screws -1-  securing the wheel bearing -2-  to the wheel bearing housing. Initial tightening 80 Nm (59 ftlb.) Final tightening +120°

  4. Tighten the fastening screws -1-  of the retainer plate -2-  clamping brake shoes on the wheel carrier -3-  . Tightening torque 10 Nm
