Removing Mounting Saddle

WARNING: Incorrect handling of airbag units
  • Triggering of airbag unit
  • System faults can occur

→ Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

→ Disconnect the battery and insulate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier is avoided.

→ Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the battery.

→ Only pull off connector on the triggering unit after the waiting time has elapsed.

→ Make sure that no foreign objects are located in front of the airbag unit during installation.

→ Replace damaged parts during removal.

→ Always position the airbag unit in such a way that the airbag opening is facing upwards.

→ If removed for an extended period, the airbag unit must be stored in a safe place.

→ Airbag units must not come into contact with grease, oil, detergents, liquids, or similar substances.

→ Do not expose airbag units to temperatures above 90°.

→ Do not remove the short-circuit spring on the plug-in contacts.

→ Ignition and preparations may only be carried out by skilled staff, supervised by a second responsible person.

→ Before disposal, the airbag unit must be rendered harmless by electrical ignition performed in accordance with all precautionary measures, thereby preventing it from being used incorrectly.

  1. Unclip electric plug connection -1-  from the body.

  2. Release electric plug connection -1-  and disconnect it -2-  .
  3. Unscrew and remove fastening screws -3-  for mounting saddle.
  4. Remove crash support -4-  .
    1. 4.1. Unscrew and remove fastening screws -5-  for crash support.
    2. 4.2. Turn crash support -4-  90°.
    3. 4.3. Pull crash support -4-  down over the brake pedal -6-  and remove it.

      Information 

      The mounting saddle is attached to one eye during production. This is provided with a desired breaking point and must be broken off when first removed.

      Therefore, the mounting saddle must be swivelled firmly to the rear to break off the eye.

  5. Swivel lower mounting saddle in the opposite direction to the direction of travel  ().

    Information 

    To avoid any danger of crushing  , the mounting saddle must not be held in the area of the clutch power spring for the clutch pedal when removing.

  6. Remove mounting saddle.
