Install The Front Wheel Bearing

Information 

• The wheel bearing must not come into contact with magnetic objects (e.g., magnetic screwdriver, magnet). 
• Screws and nuts are coated and must not be greased. 
• Grease the toothing of the drive shaft slightly with Optimoly TA aluminium paste. 
• Drive shafts must not be left hanging from the joint stop! Tie up. 
• Use new screws and lock nuts. 
• Observe correct tightening torques.

1. Place the wheel bearing -1-  at a centered position under the workshop press ram.
2. Fit the wheel hub -2-  in the wheel bearing.

   When doing so, make sure that the wheel hub is installed at the correct position in the wheel bearing > Pressing in wheel hub  .

3. Position a suitable pressure piece -3-  flat on the wheel hub.
4. Carefully press in the wheel hub until the pressure increases -A-  (check the pressure gauge!).
5. Fit the wheel bearing/wheel hub assembly in the wheel bearing housing and tighten the fastening screws to the prescribed tightening torque. > Initial tightening 80 (59 ftlb.) Nm 

   The fastening screws are tightened to the specified torque angle in Step 8!

   Fitting tool T10206 (shown as an example)

   • Pull in the drive shaft as far as it will go using the > T10206 - fitting tool. 
6. Grease the splines with a little Optimoly TA aluminium paste and fit the drive shaft into the wheel bearing housing.

   Pull the drive shaft into the wheel bearing housing.

7. Grease the mounting-face ring of the axle nut with a little Optimoly TA aluminium paste. Screw on the axle nut.
8. Following installation, the fastening screws still have to be tightened to the specified torque angle. 

   Proceed as follows:

   1. 8.1 Mark one tooth of the fastening screw and the wheel bearing housing -A-  .

   2. 8.2 Starting from the marked tooth, count off four teeth anti-clockwise and also mark this tooth -B-  .
   3. 8.3 Tighten the fastening screw -A-  until the second marking -1-  is aligned with the marking -2-  on the wheel bearing housing.

      This corresponds to > Final tightening + 120°
