Assembling Rear Spring Strut
WARNING:
Preloaded or pressurized components
- Risk of squashing or bruising
→ Do not reach into the danger area .
→ Relieve the tension on components before starting work .
→ Secure components to prevent them from loosening suddenly .
- When installing new components, always check that they are assigned correctly .
- Coil springs are only available in pairs .
- Prepare parts for assembly.
- Clamp the spring strut in a suitable clamping block (tensioning device for spring struts). Alternatively, the spring clamp can also be held in a retaining device.
- Slide the bellows/additional spring assembly onto the piston rod.
- Push the pre-tensioned coil spring onto the vibration damper so that the end of the coil spring rests against the stop of the spring plate. Fit the stop plate -7-
at the correct position.
If you are using new coil springs, observe centering ring allocation.
Information
- Coil spring marking -1- comprising two different colored lines (e.g. one red and one brown line) indicates the spring rate and spring length (depending on vehicle variant and equipment) .
- A marking -2- comprising one colored line indicates the coil spring tolerance group (load group) and determines the thickness of the centering ring -arrows- (tolerance compensation). The colored line -2- is either YELLOW or BLUE .
- If you are installing new coil springs, then order the 3 mm and 6 mm centering rings at the same time. As coil springs of load group 1 or 2 will be supplied, you will then have the correct centering rings for installation (for tolerance compensation) .
- Yellow colored line -2- = use 3-mm centering ring . Blue colored line -2- = use 6-mm centering ring .
- Fit spring plate with centering ring (compensation part) and spring-strut mount. Position the centering ring correctly. The cut-outs in the centering ring must be positioned between the collars of the three fastening pins -arrows- .
- Position the spring-strut mount.
- 6.1. Fit stop plate at the correct position (domed side upwards) and screw a new lock nut onto the piston rod (do not tighten fully yet).
- 6.2. The spring-strut mount is positioned correctly if the fastening pin -2- (on the sloping supporting mount part) is at an angle of 180 degrees from the bar -1- (on the vibration damper).
- Tighten lock nut on the piston rod.
Use socket-wrench insert 9630/2 for tightening the lock nut.
When tightening the nut, counter at the piston rod hexagon using a suitable wrench.
Tightening torque 70 Nm +5 Nm
