Preliminary Work

  1. Loosen axle nut (securing drive shaft to wheel bearing housing). Also apply the brake (2nd mechanic required) while the vehicle is stationary on the ground.
  2. Raise the vehicle.

    → 4X00IN LIFTING THE VEHICLE - section on "Lifting and lowering"

  3. Remove rear wheel.

    → 440519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WHEEL .

    For vehicles with PCCB brake discs, use assembly aids (two assembly pins).

  4. Remove rear covers -1-  . → 705319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR COVER
