Installing Rear Spring Strut
The rear spring strut can only be removed and installed together with the wheel carrier.
- Install spring strut with wheel carrier
- 1.1. Insert spring strut into the wheel carrier.
- 1.2. Align the spring strut in such a way that the threaded pin -1- next to the piston rod -2- is flush with the shock-absorber pipe clamp -3- .
- 1.3. Insert connecting link (suspension/stabilizer) -3- and screw on (do not tighten) fastening nut -5- .
- 1.4. Insert clamping screw -2- and screw on (do not tighten) fastening nut -6- .
- 1.5. Move spring strut in the wheel housing into the installation position and screw on and tighten the three fastening nuts -1-
on the upper spring-strut mount.
Tightening torque 33 Nm
- Fit drive shaft on the wheel carrier.
- 2.1. Check the drive shaft.
Check the following before installing the drive shaft:
Check inner/outer bellows and replace if necessary.
Grease the drive shaft toothing with Optimoly HT .
- 2.2. Insert the drive shaft into the wheel carrier and screw on the axle nut (drive-shaft bolt on wheel bearing housing).
- 2.1. Check the drive shaft.
- Install toe control arm and trailing arm.
- 3.1. Fit toe control arm -2-
and trailing arm -5-
on the wheel carrier and screw on and tighten fastening nut -1-
and fastening screw -4-
.
Fastening nut on toe control arm: Tightening torque 85 Nm (63 ftlb.)
Fastening screw on trailing arm: Tightening torque 120 Nm (89 ftlb.)
Information
Only for GT4 vehicles:
Fit connecting links (suspension/stabilizer) in the central position on the anti-roll bar
- 3.1. Fit toe control arm -2-
and trailing arm -5-
on the wheel carrier and screw on and tighten fastening nut -1-
and fastening screw -4-
.
- Secure the anti-roll bar.
- 4.1. Insert connecting link -2-
into the anti-roll bar and screw on and tighten fastening nut -1-
.
Initial tightening 40 Nm (30 ftlb.) Final tightening +30°
- 4.1. Insert connecting link -2-
into the anti-roll bar and screw on and tighten fastening nut -1-
.
- Tighten fastening screws securing spring strut to wheel carrier.
- 5.1. Loosen fastening nuts -5 and 6- .
- 5.2. Insert spring strut as far as it will go (do not twist!) into the wheel carrier.
- 5.3. Tighten fastening nut -5-
.
Counter the hexagon wrench face of the connecting link -arrow- when tightening the fastening nut.
Initial tightening 50 Nm (37 ftlb.) Final tightening +180°
- 5.4. Tighten fastening nut -6-
.
Initial tightening 50 Nm (37 ftlb.) Final tightening +180°
- Install rear brake calliper with line bracket.
Information
- Replace brake calliper fastening screws each time they are removed .
- 6.1. Fit brake calliper together with the holder and screw in and tighten new brake calliper fastening screws -arrows-
.
Tightening torque 85 Nm (63 ftlb.)
- 6.2. Screw in and tighten fastening screws -6- securing holder to wheel carrier. Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
- 6.3. Plug in and lock electric plug connection on the RPM sensor -3- .
- 6.4. Plug in and lock electric plug connection for PASM -4- and clip in cable retainer -5- at the holder -7- .
- 6.5. Plug in and lock electric plug connection for electric parking brake (EPB) -1- and clip the line into the cable retainer -2- .
- Install brake air spoiler.
Brake air spoiler to trailing arm: Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
