Removing Rear Wheel Bearing

WARNING: Mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic press
  • Risk of squashing

→ Read specific safety information for the press  .

→ Check that the press is working perfectly before use, particularly the safety components  .

  1. Unscrew fastening screws -1-  and remove retainer plate -2-  for parking brake shoes at the wheel bearing housing -3-  .

  2. Unscrew fastening screws -1-  and remove wheel bearing with wheel hub -2-  from the wheel bearing housing -3-  .

  3. Press wheel hub out of the wheel bearing.
    1. 3.1. Fit special tools as shown in the illustration → Pressing wheel hub out of wheel bearing  .
      1. Press tool
      2. Sleeve T10230/3 from assembly tool T10230 
      3. Pressure piece T10230/8 from assembly tool T10230 
      4. Wheel bearing unit
      5. Pressure plate VW 402 
      6. Pressure plate VW 401

    2. 3.2. Press wheel hub out of the wheel bearing.
  4. Press inner bearing ring off the wheel hub.
    1. 4.1. Separating device Nr.112-2  must be inserted between the inner bearing ring -1-  and wheel hub -2-  . Then pre-tension with the spindle.

    2. 4.2. Fit special tools as shown in the illustration → Pressing inner bearing ring off the wheel hub  .
      1. Press tool
      2. Sleeve T10230/3 from assembly tool T10230 
      3. Pressure piece T10230/8 from assembly tool T10230 
      4. Separating device Nr.112-2

    3. 4.3. Press inner bearing ring off the wheel hub.
