Preliminary Work

  1. Remove axle nut (securing drive shaft to wheel bearing housing). Also press the brake (2nd mechanic required) while the vehicle is stationary on the ground.
  2. Raise the vehicle.

    → 4X00IN LIFTING THE VEHICLE .

  3. Remove wheel.

    → 440519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WHEEL .

  4. Release the parking brake. Switch off ignition.
  5. Remove the brake calliper from the wheel bearing housing (do not open the brake system) and suspend it in the wheel arch.

    To do this, disconnect electric connector on combination wire for ABS and brake pad wear indicator and remove retaining plate from the wheel bearing housing.
