Installing Tail Light

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2019 Porsche 911, 2018 Porsche 911, 2017 Porsche 911, 2016 Porsche 911, and 2015 Porsche 911. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Information 

Before re-installing the tail lights, check the function of the adjusting elements for the holder and replace them if necessary. A holder with faulty adjusting elements must never be re-used.

  1. Check function of adjusting elements.

    Information 

    Check that the adjusting elements are not stiff. If the adjusting elements are stiff, the tail light holder must be replaced.

    1. 1.1. When the tail lights are removed, screw in the adjusting elements -3-  to approx. 1 mm.
    2. 1.2. Screw in screw -4-  in a clockwise direction.
    3. 1.3. If the adjusting element -3-  for the holder -1-  does not move up when you screw it in, the holder must be replaced.
  2. Replace tail light holder.
    1. 2.1. Loosen screw -2-  and remove the holder -1-  .
    2. 2.2. Position the new holder and tighten it to → Tightening torque: 3 Nm (2 ftlb.)  .
    3. 2.3. Remove adhesive strips over the adjusting element.

      Information 

      Before installing the tail lights, the adjusting elements must be screwed in to approx. 1 mm.

  3. Connect electric connector for the tail light until it engages securely.
  4. Push the outside of the tail light with the fork -1-  into the mounting between the retaining frame and rear apron -arrow A-  .

  5. Place the bottom of the tail light on the contact points on the rear apron -2-  at the inside and outside, guide it into the tab on the inside and swivel it towards the inside until the tail light is positioned fully at the reference points.

    Information 

    The screw-on sequence for the left and right tail light is different. Please refer to the relevant description below.

  6. Fit the fastening screws.
    1. 6.1. Left tail light:

      First screw in and tighten the assembly screw at the rear in direction of travel -1-  , then the front assembly screw -2-  on the tail light. → Tightening torque: 5.8 Nm (4.5 ftlb.)+0.58 Nm (+0.3 ftlb.)-0.87 Nm (-0.5 ftlb.)

    2. 6.2. Right tail light:

      First screw in and tighten the assembly screw at the front in direction of travel -1-  , then the rear assembly screw -2-  on the tail light. → Tightening torque: 5.8 Nm (4.5 ftlb.)+0.58 Nm (+0.3 ftlb.)-0.87 Nm (-0.5 ftlb.)

  7. Position mounting bracket cover and press it in until it clicks into place.
    WARNING: Electrically moved components
    • Danger of limbs being trapped or severed

    → Switch off electric power to drive motor.

    → Make sure it does not switch on again.

    → Check that there is no electric charge.

  8. Retract rear spoiler.
    1. 8.1. Switch on ignition.
    2. 8.2. Close the rear spoiler completely by pressing the button in the center console.
    3. 8.3. Switch off ignition.
