Removing Crankshaft
NOTE:
Incorrect handling of crankshafts
- Risk of damage to the timing system
→ Never turn the crankshaft against the rolling direction or when the chain tensioner is removed.
→ Proceed carefully with your work.
→ Only turn the engine at the crankshaft.
→ After working on the camshaft, re-set the valve timing.
→ Observe general warning notes and working regulations.
Information
- Prepare a suitable clean surface for setting down the crankshaft and accessories.
- Unscrew fastening screws -4- and remove guide frame -3- .
- Pull dowel sleeves -2-
out of the guide frame or cylinder block.
Information
- Thrust washers only on 3rd crankshaft bearing.
- Bearing screws must be replaced.
- Bearing shells that are worn down to the nickel layer must be replaced.
- Do not confuse worn bearing shells (mark them accordingly).
- Ensure that the dowel pin is seated securely in the crankshaft.
- Fit new bearing shells for the guide frame with the correct color coding.
- Lubricating grooves on the thrust washers must be facing outwards (check fixing device).
- Remove bearing shells -6-
from the guide frame.
Set the bearing shells down on the surface according to cylinder to avoid confusion. Carefully remove the side thrust washers -5- on crankshaft bearing no. 3.
- Remove connecting-rod bearing caps and bearing shells.
- Remove all bearing shells -9-
from the cylinder block.
Set the bearing shells down on the surface according to cylinder to avoid confusion. Carefully remove the side thrust washers -8- on crankshaft bearing no. 3.
CAUTION: Heavy components- Risk of squashing
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Get someone to help if necessary.
- Carefully lift the crankshaft -1- out of the cylinder block with the help of another person and set it down on a clean surface.
