Installing Crankshaft

Information
- Thrust washers only on 3rd crankshaft bearing.
- Bearing screws must be replaced.
- Bearing shells that are worn down to the nickel layer must be replaced.
- Do not confuse worn bearing shells (mark them accordingly).
- Ensure that the dowel pin is seated securely in the crankshaft.
- Fit new bearing shells for the guide frame with the correct color coding.
- Lubricating grooves on the thrust washers must be facing outwards (check fixing device).
- Oil the bearing shells before fitting them into the guide frame and cylinder block.
Insert twist locks and retaining lugs of the bearing shells into the cut-outs. Check that the twist locks are positioned correctly.
- Insert dowel sleeves -1 to 4-
into the guide frame.
CAUTION: Heavy components
- Risk of squashing
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Get someone to help if necessary.
- Carefully insert the crankshaft into the cylinder block with the help of an assistant.
Check again that the bearing shells and thrust washers are positioned correctly (they can slip out of place easily). Oil crankshaft journals.
- Insert the guide frame into the cylinder block.
- Tighten fastening screws on the guide frame in the specified sequence.

Information
Bearing sleeve for torque converter
- Short engines, reconditioned engines and new as well as replacement crankshafts are supplied without a bushing -arrow- . The bushing must therefore be driven in before installing the drive plate.
