Installing Repair Threaded Bush

NOTE: Modified chassis mounting points on rear axle
  • Incorrectly screwed joints on chassis components following thread repairs

→ Always secure the rear axle using the bolt N.912.368.01 following repairs to the chassis bush.

→ Always use new fastening screws.

  1. A1  - Threaded bush, M12
  2. A2  - Threaded bush, M14, rear axle

  1. Drill out thread.
    1. 1.1. Drill out the old thread fully using a drill bit (contained in the set) -B-  .

  2. Mill in shoulder.

    Use an electronically controlled power drill set to a speed of approx. 250rpm for milling in.

    1. 2.1. M12:

      Information 

      • The M12 repair bush must be installed recessed. The tool from the Porsche special tool Time-Sert thread repair set 9395 must always be used for milling in the relevant shoulder. The commercially available Time-Sert milling tool must not be used for this! 
      1. 2.1.1. Use a spot facer -C-  to mill in the bore hole to dimension -X-  .

        Sink the shoulder as far as required -X-  until the next level on the spot facer is touching the outer sheetmetal edge. → Test and adjustment value: 12 mm

    2. 2.2. M14, rear axle:

      Information 

      • The M14 repair bush for the rear axle must be installed recessed. The tool with the designation Spot facer for Time-Sert thread repair set NR.122-2 must be used for milling in the relevant shoulder. The supplied tool from the complete set must not be used in this case! 
      1. 2.2.1. Use spot facer -C-  to mill out the bore hole to dimension -X-  .

        Milling in must only be performed using the tool Spot facer for Time-Sert thread repair set Nr.122-2  ! → Test and adjustment value: 4 mm

  3. Cut the thread.
    1. 3.1. M12:
      1. 3.1.1. Cut thread to dimension -Y-  in the chassis bush using the cutting tool. → Test and adjustment value: 40 mm

      2. 3.1.2. Clean the thread on the chassis bush (blow it out).
    2. 3.2. M14, rear axle:
      1. 3.2.1. Use the cutting tool -D-  to cut the thread to dimension -Y-  in the chassis bush. → Test and adjustment value: 35 mm

      2. 3.2.2. Clean the thread on the chassis bush (blow it out).
  4. Position the threaded bush on the screw-in tool.
    1. 4.1. Clean the thread on the bush and screw-in tool.
    2. 4.2. Oil the screw-in tool -E-  .
    3. 4.3. Screw threaded bush -A-  onto the screw-in tool -E-  by hand.

  5. Screw in threaded bush.
    1. 5.1. Screw in threaded bush -A-  fully using the screw-in tool -E-  .

  6. Press threaded bush.

    Information 

    • While pressing in the base thread, a noticeably larger amount of force on the screw-in tool is required to form the internal thread. Pressing is finished when the screw-in tool can be turned further more easily. 
    1. 6.1. Form and press the threaded bush -A-  by turning further with the screw-in tool -E-  in the base thread.

  7. Unscrew and remove screw-in tool -E-  from the threaded bush -A-  .
