Removing Outer Hinge Pillar

  1. Remove roof. → Removing Roof 

    Information 

    Possible separation points on the outer hinge pillar.

    • The possible separation points on the outer hinge pillar can only be at the marked area -A-  and -B-  .
    • If it is certain that there has been no deformation of the roof area structure, the upper separation point in area -C-  can be used for the following repair work.

  2. Determining the cut
    1. 2.1. Position the side member separation point -A-  so that the outer hinge pillar spare part overlaps by approx. 40 mm. Mark the separation point.
    2. 2.2. Determine the separation point on the C-pillar -B-  to the dimension -X= 18 mm-  . Mark the separation point.

    CAUTION: Separating side section
    • Risk of damage to roof reinforcement and/or internal body parts.

    → Only separate parts using the oscillating body saw.

    → In the event of damage: Repair affected area by applying inert-gas welds.

  3. Cutting through the outer hinge pillar
    1. 3.1. Cut through the outer hinge pillar at the marked separation point -A-  in the side member using the oscillating body saw. Do not damage the internal components.
    2. 3.2. Cut through the outer hinge pillar at the marked separation point -B-  in the C-pillar using the oscillating body saw. Do not damage the internal components.

  4. Separating inert-gas welded seams
    1. 4.1. Separate inert-gas welded seams in area -A-  and -B-  using a parting grinder.

  5. Milling off spotwelds
    1. 5.1. Mill off spotwelds in area -A-  using a spotweld cutter.

    1. 6.1. Mill off spotwelds in area -A-  and -B-  using a spotweld cutter.

  7. Milling off and separating spotwelds
    1. 7.1. Mill off spotwelds in area -A-  and -B-  using a spotweld cutter.
    2. 7.2. Separate spotwelds in area -C-  using a parting grinder.

  8. Milling off spotwelds
    1. 8.1. Mill off spotwelds in area -A-  and -D-  using a spotweld cutter.
    2. 8.2. Mill off spotweld in area -B-  and -C-  using a spotweld cutter (2 plate thicknesses).

  9. Unscrewing fastening screws
    1. 9.1. Undo fastening screws -1-  .

  10. Loosening outer hinge pillar bonded joints
    1. 10.1. Heat up bonded joints between outer hinge pillar and hinge pillar reinforcement using the Leister Elektron hot-air gun   and remove outer hinge pillar.
