WM, 432537 Disassembling And Assembling Rear Spring Strut (Air Springs): Information: Notes
Information
Recommendation for workshops replacing shock absorbers/spring dampers:
- Dampers can be replaced separately up to a mileage of 30, 000 km or 3 years.
- If the mileage is > 30, 000 km or the components are more than 3 years old, we recommend replacing them in pairs.
Information
- As of a mileage of 200, 000 km (125, 000 miles), it is recommended that the air springs be replaced on both sides of the axle if there is damage to one air spring.
- If the vibration dampers are leaking, replace the complete air-spring strut. The oil from the vibration damper can damage the convoluted air bellows.
- When depressurized, the air spring must not be twisted. There is a danger that the convoluted air bellows inside the air spring will be damaged by bending or folding, thereby significantly reducing its service life.
