Removing Tie-Rod Ball

Installation position

1. To make it easier to remove the tie-rod ball, swivel the relevant wheel bearing housing so that the tie rod is fully extended.

   Information 

   Mark the position of the tie-rod ball on the thread before unscrewing it from the tie rod.

   Count and write down the number of turns when unscrewing the tie-rod ball.

   This eliminates the need to perform an approximate adjustment of the steering trapeze during installation.

   This does not replace suspension alignment.

2. Detach tie-rod ball -1-  from tie rod.

   Detaching tie-rod ball

   1. 2.1 Counter the tie-rod ball -1-  at the flattened areas -arrows-  using a suitable open-ended wrench.
   2. 2.2 Loosen lock nut -2-  .
3. Unscrew fastening nut -1-  from the ball pin for the tie-rod ball -2-  until it is flush with the thread of the ball pin.

4. Press tie-rod ball off the wheel bearing housing. > Pressing off tie rod 

   When pressing it off, make sure not to damage the rpm sensor.

   1. 4.1 Position > T10187 - ball joint puller  under the ball pin and fit it on the fastening nut.
   2. 4.2 Press tie-rod ball out of the tapered end of the wheel carrier using > T10187 - ball joint puller  .

   Screw in hexagon on the > T10187 - ball joint puller  until the tie-rod ball comes out of the tapered end of the wheel carrier.

5. Screw fastening nut -1-  off the ball pin of the tie-rod ball -2-  .

6. Unscrew tie-rod ball -3-  from tie rod -1-  and remove it.
