Teaching ELV Control Unit

NOTE: NOTIFICATION 
Voltage drop 
  • Risk of irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Risk of damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Coding in the control unit is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming 
    1. Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
    2. Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.
    3. Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A to the vehicle battery.

The > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3 instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text or additions may appear in > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3.

Information 

All remote controls (keys) are required for teaching a DME, front-end electronics (front BCM), rear-end electronics (rear BCM), electronic steering lock (ELV) control unit for example, or for teaching remote controls (keys).

Remote controls (keys) that are not taught during this procedure will no longer be recognized by the vehicle.

  1. Replace control unit for electric steering lock (ELV).

  2. Switch off ignition and replace ELV control unit.

  3. > 9818 - PIWIS Tester II must be connected to the vehicle before starting the System Tester. Switch on ignition using original remote control (hand-held transmitter).
  4. Select the menu Online teaching function, Engine immobilizer  on the Start page.
  5. Select the required vehicle and press F12 to continue. Vehicle data will be read out.
  6. Proceed in accordance with the instructions on the Tester.
  7. Check the VIN and enter the repair order number. Then press F12 to continue.
  8. Enter the PPN user name and password and press F12 to continue.
  9. The Login is performed.
  10. The Tester displays the message Login successful. Press F12 to continue.
  11. Follow the instructions on the Tester to select the required menu.
  12. Once the teaching process is completed successfully, the Tester shows the following status, for example:

    2 keys taught

    BCM front: taught

    ELV: taught

    BCM rear: taught

    DME: taught

    Overall vehicle status: taught. Continue with F12

  13. Press EXIT to end the Online teaching function. 
  14. Read the fault memory and erase it if necessary.
  15. Lock, open and start the vehicle using all remote controls (hand-held transmitters).
  16. Read out the fault memory again.
