Removing Rear Wheel Bearing

Overview of wheel bearing
- Wheel hub -1-
- Brake cover plate -2-
- Wheel bearing -3-
- Wheel bearing housing -4-
- Fastening screws for wheel bearing -5-
- Bearing for lower trailing arm -6-
- Speed sensor -7-
- Press out wheel hub.
Carefully set the wheel bearing housing down.
The wheel hub must be freely accessible.
Do not damage the brake cover plate.
A second mechanic is required!
- Fit press-off tool > VAS 6178 - Hydraulic cylinder

with > T10230 - Assembly tool
, -2-
and > T10205 - attachments
over the wheel hub on the wheel bearing housing -1-
.
Pressing off wheel hub
- Connect to > VAS 6179 - Foot Pump and > VAS 6179/1 - Pressure Gauge with Connection Line , -4- .
- Apply compressed air to the tool and carefully press off the wheel hub.
- Fit wheel hub -4-
using > Nr.111 - separating device

, > T10230 - assembly fixture

and > VAS 6178 - Hydraulic cylinder

, as well as > VAS 6179/1 - Pressure Gauge with Connection Line

Pressing bearing shell off the wheel hub
- Apply compressed air to the tool and press the bearing shell -5- off the wheel hub -4- .
- Fit wheel bearing housing without drive shaft in the vehicle and secure at the upper wishbones.
- Remove fastening screws -2-
for the wheel bearing -1-
from the wheel bearing housing -3-

Screws on wheel bearing (shown as an example)
- Remove wheel bearing.
