Removing Front Wheel Bearing

  • Risk of squashing

  1. Remove fastening screws -1-  used to secure the wheel bearing to the wheel carrier.

  2. Using > VAS 6926 - Puller set  , push (press in) the pin of the drive shaft into the wheel hub by max. approx. 10 mm + 5 mm. When doing this, check drive shaft clearance on the halfshaft flange.
  3. Press the wheel hub -1-  and wheel bearing by continuing to turn -A-  the spindle -2-  until they are pressed out of the wheel bearing housing -3-  (-B-  ).

  4. Press the wheel hub -2-  out of the wheel bearing -1-  .

    Pressing off wheel hub

    1. 4.1 Fit press-off tool > VAS 6178 - Hydraulic cylinder  , -3-  , as well as > VAS 6179/1 - Pressure Gauge with Connection Line  , -5-  and suitable > T10205 - attachments  , -4-  over the wheel hub on the wheel bearing.
    2. 4.2 Connect to > VAS 6179 - Foot Pump. 
    3. 4.3 Apply compressed air and press the wheel hub off the wheel bearing.
  5. Fit wheel hub using > Nr.111 - separating device  , -3-  , > T10230 - Assembly tool, -2-  and > VAS 6178 - Hydraulic cylinder  , -1-  , as well as > VAS 6179/1 - Pressure Gauge with Connection Line.

  6. Apply compressed air to the tool and press the bearing shell -5-  off the wheel hub -4-  .
