Replacing Bearings For Carrier, Rear Front Axle

If a suspension subframe bearing is replaced, the other bearings must also be checked for cracks or other signs of damage.

Hold the hydraulic cylinder VAS 6178 tightly while pressing it out.
- Engage the spindle at the eyelet on the engine transverse bar at the side where you want to replace the bearing. Guide the spindle through the lower trailing arm and tighten the spindle slightly so that the spindle is slightly tensioned.
- Loosen the suspension subframe bearings on both sides. Loosen the spindle carefully until there is sufficient clearance for using the press-out tool.
- Press out chassis subframe bearing.

- Attach the tools as shown in the picture and press out the bearing.

Fit suspension subframe bearing and check installation position.
Information
When replacing bearings, please make sure that one arrow is pointing in the direction of travel while the other arrow is pointing away from the direction of travel.
Marking on suspension subframe bearing
- Press in chassis subframe bearing. To avoid damaging the bearing, the maximum > Pressure 10 kN +/- 5 Sekunde
must not be exceeded at the stop (10 KN = 350 bar). This conversion only applies to > VAS 6178 - hydraulic cylinders
. The conversion depends on the diameter of the relevant cylinder.

- Connect the tools together as shown in the illustration.

Information
Observe correct tightening torques.
- Carefully lift the chassis subframe until installation position is reached. Fit threaded joint on chassis subframe bearing.
- Remove the spindle.
