Ti, 1003 Replacement/Reconditioned Engine Needs To Be Replaced: Only Short Engine Or Short Block Engine Available (27/13)

Information: 

If the replacement/reconditioned engine needs to be replaced, only a short engine or short block engine  (depending on model line/model/vehicle type) is available immediately. 

The cylinder head and add-on parts must be taken from the complete engine or replaced, depending on requirements and condition.

• Replacement of the short engine must be indicated by affixing the corresponding sticker (the sticker comes with the supplied short engine) in the "Vehicle data" section in the Warranty and Maintenance booklet (shown here as an example only: -item A-  ) at the bottom right (shown here as an example only  : -item B-  ), thereby documenting replacement. 

  A free page in the "Proof of replacement of control units, sensors or software update" (shown here as an example only: -item A-  ) containing the vehicle data and order data must also be used to confirm and enter the work that was carried out, including the dealer stamp. 

Date of Introduction: 

One year after start of production of the relevant vehicle type.

Action Required: 

Depending on the engine variant required  (corresponding to model line/model/vehicle type), a short engine or short block engine is available. 

1. The " short block engine  " variant is supplied with cylinder head. 
2. The "short engine  " variant basically includes the crankcase and crankshaft.

The short engine is supplied without the following components and add-on parts: 

• without cylinder head,
• without water pump,
• without power-steering pump,
• without generator (alternator),
• without starter and
• without intake system.

Recommended procedure for building the new complete engine:

Remove cylinder head and add-on parts from the old complete engine.

Clean old ancillary units  , e.g.:

• Generator,
• starter,
• water pump/power-steering pump and
• air-conditioning compressor

and wearing parts  e.g.:

• V-belt and
• tensioning rollers/idler pulleys

if possible, check/evaluate the parts in accordance with technical criteria and replace with appropriate new parts from the PET if necessary (according to the respective engine variant).

Information 

The short engine/short block engine is always supplied without engine oil. 

For the test run immediately after production, however, the short block engine is filled with engine oil.

This engine oil is removed again after the test run.

The quantity of oil remaining in the short block engine can vary.

=> Drain any remaining oil in the engine  via the oil drain plug  to prevent overfilling with engine oil.

=> The engine must then be filled with the defined and prescribed quantity of engine oil. 

=> We recommend that you check the following components in particular and replace them, depending on mileage and engine usage: 

• V-belts,
• valve-stem seals
