Preliminary Work
WARNING:

Information
- Get one or more people to help when installing/removing heavy or difficult-to-reach components.
- This will prevent or reduce the risk of possible damage.
Information
- Spray corroded nuts and screws with rust solvent or heat using a hot-air gun before removal.
- Move selector lever to position -N- .
- Disconnect ground contact for the battery under the driver's seat.
- Remove engine compartment trim panel at tie left.
- Disconnect plug connection -1-
for left oxygen sensor from the holder in the engine compartment and expose wire harness.
- 4.1 Disconnect plug connection for oxygen sensor for primary catalytic converter.
- 4.2 Unclip wire harness -arrows- and open out the lower holder at the top.

- Remove engine guard.
- Loosen the rear cardan shaft -1-
at the transfer gear and secure it with a tie-wrap -2-
to prevent it from becoming kinked.

- Remove front cardan shaft.
- Remove left catalytic converter.

- 8.1 Spray flange nuts with rust solvent and leave it to take effect or heat flange nuts using a hot-air gun if necessary.
- 8.2 Screw off flange nuts.
- 8.3 Remove catalytic converter.
- 8.4 Replace seal and flange nuts.
- Remove heat shield on the universal joint.
- 9.1 Unscrew fastening screws -1- on the heat shield -2- .
- 9.2 Remove heat shield.

- Unscrew fastening screw -1-
on holder -2-

- Loosen primary catalytic converter at the left -1-

- Remove oxygen sensor on primary catalytic converter at the left.

- 12.1 Tip the primary catalytic converter -1- down.
- 12.2 Loosen and unscrew oxygen sensor -2- using an open-ended wrench (a/f 22) -3- .
- 12.3 Remove primary catalytic converter and oxygen sensor.
- 12.4 Replace seal and lock nuts.

- Release electric plug connections -1 and 2-
at the right of the transfer gear -a, b-
and disconnect them -A, B-

and disconnect them -A,_B-

- Remove transmission cross member.
- 15.1 Unscrew M10 fastening screws -B- on the transmission mount.
- 15.2 Unscrew M10 fastening screws -A- on the outer cross member and remove cross member.

- Remove transfer gear.
