Replacing Control Unit For Electric Parking Brake

NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Risk of irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Risk of damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Coding in the control unit is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming 
    1. Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
    2. Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.
    3. Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A to the vehicle battery.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester  .

  1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition. Press F12 to continue.
  2. Select the vehicle if required.
  3. Select the Parking brake control unit in the overview. Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  4. Actual values/input signals must now be selected.
  5. Measured values must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  6. Select values for Actuator position status right and left and press F12.
  7. The status must be open for both actuators.

    If the released  status is not displayed, then proceed as follows:

    1. 7.1 Select Drive links/Tests and Move to installation position  in the menu and press F12.
    2. 7.2 Press F8 to start the function and follow the instructions on the Tester.
  8. Go back to the overview and select the Maintenance/repairs  menu.
  9. Check parking brake basic setting  must then be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  10. Follow the instructions on the Tester. Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
  11. Complete the following steps on vehicles with steel brakes. Do not perform the Bedding in function on vehicles with PCCB.
    1. 11.1 Select Bedding in  and press F12.
    2. 11.2 Follow the instructions on the Tester and press F8 to start.
    3. 11.3 Follow the instructions on the Tester.
  12. Read out the fault memory  and erase it if necessary.
  13. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
  14. Check the function of the electric parking brake by actuating the lever. The LED in the button may start flashing after the first function test.
  1. 14.1 If the LED in the button starts flashing after the first function test:
    1. 14.1.1 Perform a further function test. Check the function of the electric parking brake by actuating the lever.
