Replacing Rear Wheel Bearing

Information
- The wheel bearing must not come into contact with magnetic objects (e.g., magnetic screwdriver, magnet).
- Screws and nuts are Geomet-coated and must not be greased.
- Grease the toothing of the drive shaft slightly with Optimoly TA aluminium paste.
- Drive shafts must not be left hanging from the joint stop! Tie them up.
- Use new screws and lock nuts.
- Observe correct tightening torques.
- Fit the wheel bearing at a centred position under the workshop press ram.
- Fit wheel hub -2-
in the wheel bearing -1-
.
Pressing in wheel hub
- Position a suitable pressure piece -3- flat on the wheel hub -2- .
- Carefully press the wheel hub -2- into the wheel bearing -1- until the pressure increases -A- (check the pressure gauge!).
- Fit wheel bearing with wheel hub in the wheel bearing housing.
- Fit fastening screws on wheel bearing. Tighten only to the specified tightening torque! > Initial tightening 80 (59 ftlb.) Nm --
- Tighten fastening screws on wheel bearing to the specified torque angle. > Final tightening + 120
° --

Mark one tooth of the relevant fastening screw and the wheel bearing housing -A -
.
Marking fastening screw
- 7.2 Starting from the marked tooth, count off four teeth anti-clockwise and also mark this tooth -B - .
- 7.3
Tighten the fastening screw by four teeth > Final tightening + 120
° -- clockwise -A -
so that the second marking -1-
on the fastening screw is aligned with the marking -2-
on the wheel bearing housing.
Final tightening for fastening screw on wheel bearing

Mark one tooth of the relevant fastening screw and the wheel bearing housing -A -
.
- Remove the wheel bearing housing again and set it down carefully.
- Insert the drive shaft in the wheel bearing housing and fit the wheel bearing housing/drive shaft assembly in the vehicle.
