Replacing Bearing For Rear Axle

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: Incorrect line routing
  • Risk of damage to lines and hoses
  • Malfunction and fault memory entry on control unit

→ Avoid small bending radii when routing lines.

→ File down edges and burrs in the routing area or mask them with adhesive tape.

→ Maintain a sufficient distance from components exposed to high temperatures while driving.

For vehicles with PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control):

CAUTION: Heavy components
  • Risk of squashing

    → Wear personal protective gear.

→ Get someone to help if necessary.

  1. Move the gear support > Supporting chassis subframe  under the centre of the chassis subframe and lift it carefully using a suitable base (e.g. hard rubber support).

  2. For vehicles with PDCC: Unclip lines from the holders on the body so that there is sufficient clearance at the lines for lowering the chassis subframe.

    Information

Front bearings for rear axle: The cardan shaft must not touch the mounting face when lowering the chassis subframe!

  3. Loosen the threaded joint at the bearing and carefully lower the gear support until there is sufficient clearance for using the tool.
  4. Press out chassis subframe bearing.

    CAUTION: Heavy components
    • Risk of squashing

      → Wear personal protective gear.

→ Get someone to help if necessary.

    Information

Hold the hydr a  ulic cylinder VAS 6178 tightly while pressing it out.

  5. Attach tools as shown in the picture and press out the bearing.

    Information

When inserting the bearing, make sure that the rubber cushion is pointing in the direction of travel in the transverse direction.

  6. Check chassis subframe installation position (rubber cushion -arrows-  ).

  7. To avoid damaging the bearing, the maximum > Pressure 60 kN +/- 5 kN  -- must not be exceeded at the stop [60 KN = 200 bar). This conversion applies only to the hydraulic cylinder VAS 6178. The conversion depends on the diameter of the cylinder in question. > T10301 - Assembly fixture  > T10301/20 - Porsche supplement set

    Information

The nut -2-  must be locked with the contact surface on the press-in plate -7-  The press-in plate -7-  must be positioned perfectly on the bearing sleeve on the chassis subframe. (Get another worker to help if necessary!)! This prevents the bearing from being drawn in at an incorrect angle.

  8. Connect tools together as shown in the illustration. Press the bearing in carefully!

    Information

    Observe correct tightening torques.

  9. Carefully lift the chassis subframe until installation position is reached. Fit threaded joint on chassis subframe bearing.
  10. For vehicles with PDCC: Clip lines into the holders on the body.
