Removing The Front Wheel Bearing Housing

→ Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

- Unscrew screws -1,_2-
for holder -3, 4-
for hydraulic lines.
Holders for hydraulic lines
- 1.1 Loosen the holder at the wheel bearing housing -5- .
- Release cable plug -1-

and it pull off -A ;

- Loosen the brake calliper and suspend it at a suitable position in the wheel arch (do not open the brake hydraulics!).

- 3.1 Also protect the brake calliper (for example with a cloth or suitable rubber mat) to prevent damage to the paintwork.
- Remove brake disc.
- Secure the upper trailing arm -2-
with the > VW552 - spring compressor-1-
.

- 5.1 Engage the spring tensioner in the top opening of the wheel housing and in the upper trailing arm and tighten it slightly to avoid damaging the upper ball joint -3- .
- Use the > VAS 6926 - puller set
to push out the drive shaft peg by a maximum 10 to 15 mm > Pressing out drive shaft.

- 6.1 Check drive shaft clearance on the halfshaft flange while doing this.
- Loosen the lock nut -1-
on the bottom ball joint -2-.

- 7.1 Only unscrew the lock nut until it is flush with the ball pin, to prevent damage to the ball pin -3- .
- Fit the > T10444 - ball joint puller
, -4-
over the ball joint -2-
and ball pin -3-
and carefully push the ball joint out of the trailing arm -5-
.
- 8.1 Make sure not to damage the rubber boot on the ball joint.
- Press out the tie rod on the wheel bearing housing using > T10187 - ball joint puller

- Secure the wheel bearing housing to prevent it from falling down (help required).
- Press out the upper ball joint on the wishbone using the >T10187 - ball joint puller .
- Pull the wheel bearing housing out of the lower ball joint and remove it.
