Installing Lower Trailing Arm
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
WARNING:
Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly
- Risk of crushing
- Risk of damage to components
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).
Information
The pictures shown in this document may differ from the original.
Information
Dimension 1 - centre of wheel to lower edge of wing (rear axle shown)
- All screws and threaded joints on the axle must be tightened in vehicle position. Vehicle position means: vehicle standing on its wheels or the wheel suspension is raised with a universal vehicle lift. Measurement -1- from the lower edge of the wing to the middle of the vehicle axle corresponds to vehicle position. The current height values can be found in
> 4495TW ADJUSTMENT VALUES FOR SUSPENSION ALIGNMENT
. Always observe the following points!
- On vehicles with air springs, the respective air spring must be bled using the Porsche System Tester.
- Screws and nuts are Geomet-coated and must not be greased.
- Use a > 9546 - screwdriver to counter when tightening the ball joints if necessary.
- Carefully insert the pin for the ball joint into the wheel bearing housing and fit the lock nut. > Tightening torque 130 (96 ftlb.)Nm
--
Removing ball joint
- Press the trailing arm into the mounting points on the chassis subframe -A-
.
Removing trailing arm
- Fit eccentric screws -1-
.
- 4.1 Carefully lift the wheel bearing housing using a suitable lift so that the dust bellows on the steering is not damaged by the eccentric screws -1- .
- 4.2 Position eccentric screws -1- so that the markings -A, B- are aligned.
- 4.3 Tighten lock nuts. > Tightening torque 170 (126 ftlb.) Nm --
Marking on eccentric screws
- Use a suitable jack to raise the trailing arm and remove > VW552 - Spring tensioner-1-
from the upper trailing arm -2-
.
Securing upper trailing arm
- Lift the trailing arm -1-
as far as required using a suitable jack -4-
until the fastening screw -2-
slides easily through the spring strut -3-
and trailing arm -1-
.
Spring strut threaded joint
- Fit the fastening screw -2- for the spring strut -3- and trailing arm -2- . > Initial tightening 150 (111 ftlb.) Nm -- > Final tightening + 90° --
