Installing Front-Axle Carrier
- Risk of squashing
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Get someone to help if necessary.
Information
Dimension 1 - centre of wheel to lower edge of wing (rear axle shown)
- All screws and threaded joints on the axle must be tightened in vehicle position. Vehicle position means: vehicle standing on its wheels or the wheel suspension is raised with a universal vehicle lift. Measurement -1- from the lower edge of the wing to the middle of the vehicle axle corresponds to vehicle position. The current height values can be found in
> 4495TW ADJUSTMENT VALUES FOR SUSPENSION ALIGNMENT
. Always observe the following points!
- On vehicles with air springs, the respective air spring must be bled using the Porsche System Tester.
- Screws and nuts are Geomet-coated and must not be greased.
- Position the -Front-axle carrier-
on the mounting frame.
Front-axle carrier
- Position the lifting platform -1-
on the markings -A-
.
Position of lifting platform
- Position the front-axle carrier with steering, final drive and anti-roll bar back in its original, marked installation position and be careful not to damage adjacent parts.
- Tighten the four fastening screws -arrows-
.
Threaded connection securing chassis subframe to body (front): > Initial tightening 120 (89 ftlb.) Nm -- > Final tightening + 180° --
Threaded connection securing chassis subframe to body (rear): > Initial tightening 120 (89 ftlb.) Nm -- > Final tightening + 180° --
Fastening screws on front-axle carrier
- Remove the lifting platform with assembly frame.
- Fit connecting link -2-
on the anti-roll bar -3-
and tighten the fastening screw. > Tightening torque 110 (81.5 ftlb.) Nm
--
- Press the lower trailing arm into the mounting points on the front-axle carrier -A-
.
Removing trailing arm
- Fit eccentric screws -1-
.
Marking on eccentric screws
- 8.1 Carefully lift the wheel bearing housing using a suitable lift so that the dust bellows on the steering is not damaged by the eccentric screws -1- .
- 8.2 Position eccentric screws -1- so that the markings -A, B- are aligned.
- 8.3 Tighten lock nuts. > Tightening torque 170 (126 ftlb.) Nm --
- Tighten fastening screws -1
securing drive shaft to transmission.
Observe specified tightening torque:
The following applies for fastening screw M8 x 48: > Initial tightening 20 (15 ftlb.) Nm -- > Final tightening + 90° --
The following applies for fastening screw M10 x 52: > Initial tightening 50 (37 ftlb.) Nm -- > Final tightening +90° --
Sewers securing drive shaft to transmission
- Fit the steering column at the steering gear.
> 481519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING STEERING COLUMN
Use a new clamping screw.
Installing steering column
- 10.1 Press the steering column -2- onto the steering gear -3- (-A- ).
- 10.2 Insert a new clamping screw -1- and tighten without tension. > Initial tightening 20 (15 ftlb.) Nm -- > Final tightening + 90° --
- Position hydraulic line (intake pipe) -2-
and fit the clamp -1-
.
Front left hydraulic line
- For vehicles with "DGC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control - anti-roll stabilization):
Route hydraulic line -1- (pressure line) without tension and fit it on the steering gear -2- . > Tightening torque 32 (24 ftlb.) Nm +/- 4 (3 ftlb.) Nm --
Hydraulic line at steering gear (with PDCC)
- For vehicles with PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control - anti-roll stabilization):
Fit lines -1,_3- at the flow divider -2- and at the front right side member.
Cap screws on flow divider: > Tightening torque 28 Nm (20.7 ftlb.) +/- 4 Nm (3 ftlb.) --
Banjo bolt on flow divider: > Tightening torque 20 Nm (14.8 ftlb.) + 45° --
Cap screws: > Tightening torque 28 Nm (20.7 ftlb.) +/- 4 Nm (3 ftlb.) --
Lines at the flow divider and side member (with PDCC)
- For vehicles with PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control - anti-roll stabilization):
Fit lines -1, 2- at the connection point and valve block.
Cap screw: > Tightening torque 28 Nm (20.7 ftlb.) +/- 4 Nm (3 ftlb.) --
Line to valve block: > Tightening torque 28 Nm (20.7 ftlb.) --
Line to valve block: > Tightening torque 28 Nm (20.7 ftlb.) --
Lines at the connection point and valve block (with PDCC)
- For vehicles without PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control - anti-roll stabilization):
Fit hydraulic line -1- (pressure line) at the steering gear -2- . > Tightening torque 32 (24 ftlb.) Nm +/- 4 (3 ftlb.) Nm --
Hydraulic line at steering gear (without PDCC)
- For vehicles without PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control - anti-roll stabilization):
Fit holder -1- on final drive.
Pressure line at steering gear (without PDCC)
- For vehicles without PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control - anti-roll stabilization):
Replace tie-wrap -2- and fit pressure line on steering gear.
- Position heat shield -2-
on the steering gear and tighten fastening screws. > Tightening torque 9 (6.5 ftlb.)
Nm. --
Heat shield for steering gear
- Fit the tie rod on the wheel bearing housing.
- > VW552 - Spring tensioner-1- can now be removed from the upper trailing arm -2-
.
