Removing Automatic Transmission
- Risk of squashing or crushing
→ Secure components to prevent them from falling down.

- Some of the repair illustrations show only one side of the vehicle or a similar component.
- Naturally, some steps also have to be performed on the opposite side of the vehicle as well.

- Only for vehicles with PDCC:
- 1.1 Loosen distributor -1- for the hydraulic lines.
- 1.2 Unscrew fastening screws -2- but leave the distributor hanging.

- Disconnect selector lever cable on the automatic transmission.
- Unscrew fastening screws -1-
for the heat shield -2-

- Loosen holder for ATF lines -1- at the front right of the automatic transmission.
- Place a container underneath to catch emerging ATF.
- Lower the automatic transmission at the rear.
- Disconnect ATF lines on the heat exchanger.
- Unscrew fastening screws -1- on the heat exchanger -2- .
- Release cable plug -1-
at the control valve -2-
for thermal management -a-
and disconnect it -A-

- Unscrew fastening screws -1- on the holders -2- for the coolant lines.
- Release electric plug connection -1- for the crankshaft pulse sender at the left of the automatic transmission -a- and disconnect it -A- .
- Pull off stopper -1-

Information
- Get one or more people to help when installing/removing heavy or difficult-to-reach components.
- This will prevent or reduce the risk of possible damage.
Information
- When loosening or tightening the converter screws, the help of another person is required in order to turn the engine.
- Check the position of the converter screws using a mirror.
- The converter screws must be replaced.
- Unscrew fastening screws for the torque converter. To do this, perform the following steps.
- Get a helper to turn the crankshaft clockwise using > 9714 - Socket wrench insert -arrow- and torque wrench -1-

- > 9595 - Locating pin must now be inserted into the front bore on the transmission bell housing -right arrow-

Then hold it upwards with slight pressure until it engages when the crankshaft is turned.

- Use a mirror -2- to check that the screw on the drive plate is fitted correctly with respect to the assembly opening -1- .
- > 9688 - Bit insert must be fitted on the fastening screw through the opening in the engine block -arrow-

- > 9595 - Locating pin must then be pulled out before loosening the fastening screws.
- Loosen and unscrew fastening screw.
- 20.1 Connect torque wrench without ratchet head to insert part 9687 and loosen fastening screw.
- 20.2 Unscrew fastening screw by hand after loosening it with the magnetic bit insert.
- Remove the other fastening screws in the same way as described in the steps above.
Information
- When removing and installing the transmission, make sure that the torque converter does not slip out of the transmission.
- Secure the torque converter through the bore on the underside of the transmission with a > 9595 - locating pin.
- Insert locating pin for securing the torque converter into the bore on the transmission bell housing.

- Unclip transmission vent hose -1-

- Unscrew aluminum screws -1-
for transmission flange on the engine.
- 25.1 Aluminum screws must be replaced.

- When removing and installing the transmission, make sure that the torque converter does not slip out of the transmission.
- Secure the torque converter through the bore on the underside of the transmission with a > 9595 - locating pin.
- Remove automatic transmission with the help of another person
- 26.1 Loosen automatic transmission from the engine.
- 26.2 Carefully pull the automatic transmission to the rear and lower it slowly using the jack.
- 26.3 Make sure that no wire is kinked or torn off when removing it.
- 26.4 Make more space for removal by tilting or twisting the automatic transmission if necessary.
