Replacing ATF

Information

Change the ATF when the engine/transmission is cold.

Place oil collection pan underneath.
WARNING:
Hot fluid
- Danger of scalding
  → Let the fluid cool down.
  
  → Wear personal protective gear.
Unscrew oil drain plug -1- .

ATF inspection plug
WARNING:

Unscrew overflow pipe -2- using an Allen key and drain ATF.

ATF oil drain plug
Loosen fastening screw -1- for the ATF lines -2- at the bottom of the transmission -3- .

Detaching ATF lines at the bottom
Pull ATF lines out of the transmission and drain ATF.
Information
- The sealing rings at the ends of the ATF lines on the transmission and cooler sides must be replaced before installation.
Position ATF lines -2- with holder in the transmission -3- .
Check that the lines are seated correctly.

Detaching ATF lines at the bottom
Fit fastening screw -1- and tighten to > Tightening torque 20 (15 ftlb.) Nm --.
To drain the front ATF lines, remove the ATF thermostat.

As soon as the ATF has drained from the ATF lines, install the ATF thermostat.

Screw overflow pipe -2- into the ATF pan.
> Tightening torque 2 Nm --

ATF inspection plug
Screw adapter for filling oil > VAS 6262/2 - Adapter for filling ATF oil into the ATF pan hand-tight.
Information
- Only part of the total change quantity can be filled because of the test specifications stipulated for the ATF.
- The remaining quantity must then be filled as described under Checking and topping up ATF.
Connect adapter for filling oil > VAS 6262A - Adapter for filling oil to the quick connector and fill in ATF.
Pull off adapter for filling oil > VAS 6262A - Adapter for filling oil at the quick connector and check to see if ATF emerges.
If no ATF emerges, fill in ATF until a constant discharge is visible at the lifting tube.
Screw in oil drain plug -1- and tighten to > Tightening torque 20 (15 ftlb.) Nm + 2 (1.5 ftlb.) Nm --.
