Information 

For optimum assembly, turn the engine to "TDC" before disassembly.

Information 

Seal open lines and hoses with suitable sealing plugs from the > VAS 6122 - motor sealing plug set.

Information 

• The number of screws, fastening clips, plug connections, holders and lines may vary depending on the engine variant and equipment. 
• The graphics for removal or installation are partly shown on a variant and may deviate from the actual situation. 
• Naturally, some steps must always be carried out. 
• Some of the repair illustrations show only one side of the vehicle. 

1. Disconnect the battery.

   > WM 978509 LOOSENING AND SECURING GROUND STRAP FOR BATTERY

2. Drain engine oil.

   > 170117 DRAINING AND FILLING ENGINE OIL

3. Drain coolant.

   > 193817 DRAINING AND FILLING COOLANT

4. Removing refrigerant by suction.

   > WM 870317 DRAINING AND FILLING REFRIGERANT (CAYENNE, CAYENNE GTS, CAYENNE TURBO S, CAYENNE S, CAYENNE S E-HYBRID, CAYENNE TURBO, CAYENNE S DIESEL, CAYENNE (3.0))

5. Removing both air cleaner housings.

   > 242519 REMOVE AND INSTALL AIR CLEANER HOUSING

6. Removing the front bumper.

7. Completely dismantle the lock support panel and bumper with all radiators.

   1. 7.1 Loosen -1-  screw and pull ATF lines -3-  off -4-  the thermostat.

      1. 7.1.1 Collect leaking ATF and close lines with suitable plugs.
   2. 7.2 To do this, -4-  remove screw for the refrigerant line -5-  at the condenser. Disconnect refrigerant lines and close them off so that they are air-tight.

      Replace O-ring during installation.

   3. 7.3 Disconnect the hydraulic lines to the power steering radiator in the area of the left-hand side member.

      1. 7.3.1 Loosen clamps -1-  and pull off coolant -2-  hoses.
      2. 7.3.2 Collect leaking hydraulic oil and close hoses with suitable plugs.
   4. 7.4 Disconnect electric plug connections.
      1. 7.4.1 Release and disconnect electric plug connection -6-  for the wiring harness on the left side.

   5. 7.5 Release and disconnect electric plug connection -8-  on the right side.

   6. 7.6 Disconnect the flap cable from the longitudinal member at the top left.

   7. 7.7 Unscrew -5-  the screws to the side member.

   8. 7.8 Unscrew screws -4-  from bumper.

   9. 7.9 Removing complete radiator assembly with the help of another person.
8. Removing the cover for the throttle body completely with both molded hoses.

   > WM, 243519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING THE THROTTLE-HOUSING COVER

   > Refer to the appropriate service information

9. Loosen three fastening screws -Arrows-  on the coolant pump belt pulley.

   Unscrew the screws to the side member

10. Removing drive belt.

    > 137819 REMOVE AND INSTALL DRIVE BELT

11. Removing the coolant pump belt pulley.
12. Removing both cylinder head covers.

    > 158219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CYLINDER HEAD COVER 

13. Turn engine to TDC of cylinder 1. 
14. Removing belt pulley.

    > Refer to the appropriate service information.

    1. 14.1 Before removing the belt pulley, make sure that the pin hole of the belt pulley is aligned with the recess in the chain housing cover.
    2. 14.2 Removing belt pulley with friction plate.
15. V6 Biturbo:  > 9861 - Staking tool for timing must be fitted on the camshafts of both cylinder banks.
    1. 15.1 Tighten screws with 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)  .

16. V8  :> 9678/1 - Staking tool must be fitted on the camshafts of both cylinder banks. Then fit screws by hand.

17. Removing joint flange for crankshaft sealing ring.

    > Refer to the appropriate service information

    1. 17.1 Replacing sealing flange during installation.
18. Removing turbocharger suction and pressure hose on cylinder bank 1.
19. Removing alternator.

20. Removing chain tensioner.

21. Removing oil pressure indicator with adapter.
