Installing Pulley (Vibration Balancer)

Information 

The tightening specifications for the basic engine are stored centrally.

Tightening torques and assembly instructions for other assemblies (e.g. chassis, electrics, transmission or body) or for peripheral engine equipment can be found in the corresponding documents.

Information 

  1. Position vibration damper (crankshaft pulley) onto the crankshaft stub. Press the vibration damper slightly towards the engine, while at the same time turning it until it slips towards the timing-case cover. When doing so, be careful of the feather key.

  2. New  central screw must be fitted hand-tight. >

    Information 

    Protect the radiator fins using cardboard or a sheetmetal panel to prevent damage.

    Cover wing and peripheral parts to protect them.

  3. > 9679/1 - Counter-hold tool  must be inserted into the vibration damper and turned until it locks. Get another worker to use the counter-hold tool.

  4. Using a torque wrench and a suitable socket (width across flats 27), tighten the central screw > and only  carry out step-by-step torque tightening

    Pulleys

    Water pump pulley
    Fastening screw, M8 x 16
    Vibration damper
    Fastening screw, M18 x 1.5 x 72; always use a new screw.
    Power-steering pump/tandem pump pulley
    Fastening screw, M8 x 16

    NOTIFICATION 

    Incorrect handling of tools 

    • Risk of damage to the body 

      → Only use tools approved by Porsche.

      → Always ensure that the tool Is seated correctly.

      → Protect the body and Interior of the vehicle from damage with protective covers.

      → Cover delicate components with cardboard or sheetmetal panels.

  5. After tightening to the specified torque, mark the vibration damper and central screw for torque-angle tightening using a water-resistant marker. To do this, make an initial mark on the vibration damper and central screw at the same position -1 and 2-  , Make a final mark in accordance with the specified torque angle only on the vibration damper

    Carry out the torque-angle tightening procedure so that the mark on the screw is turned from the initial mark on the vibration damper step-by-step (repositioning the tools repeatedly) to the final mark on the vibration damper -arrow-  . This concludes the torque-angle tightening procedure.
