Installing Wheel

NOTE:
Removing/fitting wheels
- Risk of damage to (ceramic) brake discs
- Use two assembly pins when removing and fitting the wheel.
- Carefully guide the wheel towards the wheel hub, thereby preventing any heavy impact on the (ceramic) brake disc.
Information
- Use assembly aids (threaded pin for mounting wheel) in order to exclude any possibility of heavy contact of the wheel with the brake disc! The assembly aids (threaded pins for mounting wheel) should be obtained via the Porsche parts service (Part No. 999.571.074.30)!
- For vehicles with a Tire Pressure Monitoring system (TPM), every new set of wheels or wheel change must be communicated to the control unit (even if the new wheels have the same specifications as the old ones). To do this, select >>Tire pressure, Settings, Tire type and Tire size<< in the main menu on the instrument cluster and confirm your selection. The control unit then stores these values while the vehicle is driving (at more than 25 km/h (16 mph)). The current tire pressure is not available during this time.
- The wheel mounting trolley can be used to make mounting easier, see Workshop Equipment Manual, Chapter 3.4.2.
- Installing wheel
- 1.1 Screw the assembly aids (threaded pins for mounting wheel) into two threaded holes that are not next to each other.
- 1.2 Carefully push the wheel over the assembly aids (threaded pins for mounting wheel).
Wheel mounting pins (steel brake disc)
- 1.3 Screw the other wheel fastening bolts into the remaining threaded holes.
- 1.4 Replace the assembly aids (threaded pins for mounting wheel) with wheel fastening bolts.
- 1.5 Fit and tighten the wheel fastening bolts evenly. Start at the top when tightening.
Information
The torque specification for the wheel bolts in the Workshop Manual (180 Nm/133 ftlb.) differs from the specification in the Driver's Manual (160 Nm/118 ftlb.).
The reason for this is that when replacing several axle components on a vehicle, the torque of 180 Nm (133 ftlb.) is absolutely essential due to the settling behavior of the components.
When simply changing a wheel, on the other hand, the torque of 160 Nm (118 ftlb.) as specified in the Driver's Manual is sufficient.
- Tighten the wheel bolts to the prescribed tightening torque.
