Mounting Engine On Transmission

WARNING: Danger of objects or loads falling down
  • Risk of squashing or crushing

→Secure components to prevent them from falling down.
CAUTION: ATF pump can be damaged if not installed correctly.
  • Risk of shearing off drivers on ATF pump pinion

→Precisely align cut-outs on the converter hub with the drivers on the ATF pump pinion
→Install the converter" slowly and carefully

Tightening torques, tightening sequence and assembly overviews for the engine and transmission:

  1. Fix engine to the crankshaft using special tool > 9595 - locating pins.

  2. Insert special tool > 9689 - centering  pin in converter.

  3. Lift the engine with the workshop crane and move it into installation position with respect to the transmission.
  4. Put engine and transmission together.
  5. The dowel sleeves on the engine must slip perfectly into the bores on the transmission bell housing.
  6. Fit transmission screws -1-  with the holders -2-  for the primary catalytic converters.

    1. Always use new aluminium screws.
    2. Fit the two bottom screws when the drive train is installed.
    3. Screw in screws hand-tight.
    4. Tighten screws to the specified torque and torque angle.

    Fitting transmission screws 

  7. Carefully lift the engine and transmission assembly with the workshop crane
  8. Fit engine mounts.

    > 103519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ENGINE MOUNT 

    1. Remove wooden block under transmission.
    2. Carefully lower the engine and transmission assembly, marking sure the engine mounts are seated correctly in the engine carrier.
    3. Fit engine mounts.

  9. Remove workshop crane from the engine.
  10. Secure torque converter to drive plate.
    1. Replace screws.
    2. > 9689 - Centering pin  must be removed before fitting screws using > 9688 - bit insert  .
    3. Fit bit snap-on head and special tool > 9687 - insert  and screw in screw, but do not tighten it.

    Opening for converter screws 

  11. Turn crankshaft clockwise using special tool > 9714 - socket-wrench insert  .
  12. Insert special tool > 9595 - locating  pins into the front bore on the converter bell housing -arrow-  and hold in place with slight pressure until it engages when the crankshaft is turned. This sets the position for the next screw.

  13. Complete the steps described above for the other five screws.
  14. Remove special tool > 9595 - locating pins  before tightening the converter screws to the specified torque.
  15. Insert stopper for converter assembly opening. To do this, moisten the groove all around the stopper with water.
  16. Further installation is performed in reverse order.
