Securing Connecting Rod Bolts
CAUTION:
Ingress of dirt
- Danger of material damage due to blocked oil bores/oil ducts.
→ Absolute cleanliness is essential when working on the engine.
→ Lay removed engine parts on a clean base and make sure to cover them.
→ Use the cover for dust protection when fitting the engine NR.165 on the engine assembly support.
NOTE:
Refitting connecting rod bolts that were already used
- Risk of engine damage
→ Always replace connecting rod bolts.
→ New connecting rod bolts may be screwed in a maximum of four times during assembly.
- Position the new connecting rod bolts with the associated connecting rod caps and tighten the screws by hand.
- Pre-tighten connecting rod bolts to the specified torque and retighten with a torque angle wrench. → Initial tightening: 15 ftlb. ; → Torque angle: 110°
- Unscrew connecting-rod bolts.
- Pre-tighten connecting rod bolts to the specified torque and perform the final tightening with a torque angle wrench. → Initial tightening: 15 ftlb. ; → Final tightening - torque angle: 110°
