Removing Reservoir For Coolant

WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials
  • Danger of fire or explosion

→ Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.

→ Use suction to remove ignitable vapors.

→ Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.

  1. Before opening the fuel lines, put up or attach a warning sign in a clearly visible position on the vehicle.

  2. Unclip the fuel line -2-  at the connection point in the engine compartment.
    1. 2.1. Press the locking lugs on plug-in coupling and pull the line apart.
    2. 2.2. Soak up emerging fuel with a cloth.
    3. 2.3. Unclip the fuel line from the holder -3-  on the coolant reservoir.

      WARNING: Coolant is hazardous to health.
      • Risk of skin irritation.

      → Wear protective gloves and goggles.

      → In the event of contact with the skin or eyes, wash immediately with plenty of water.

  3. Remove coolant hoses.
    1. 3.1. Remove supply hose (reservoir to engine) -3-  .
      1. 3.1.1. Open the spring band clamp -4-  and pull off the coolant hose -3-  at the thermostat housing.
      2. 3.1.2. Release spring clamp on the Henn coupling -5-  and pull the coolant hose off the coolant pipe. Press the intake air line aside.

        Make sure that the spring clamps are not overstretched. 

    2. 3.2. Remove the coolant bleeder hose -2-  at the reservoir.
      1. 3.2.1. Open the spring band clamp -1-  on the coolant bleeder hose and pull off the coolant bleeder hose.
    3. 3.3. Remove the coolant hose -6-  at the reservoir.
      1. 3.3.1. Open the spring band clamp on the coolant hose and pull off the coolant hose.
      2. 3.3.2. Unclip the coolant hose at the holder.

  4. Remove the coolant hose -1-  for the thermostat housing.
    1. 4.1. Open the spring band clamps -2-  and pull off the coolant hose.

  5. Remove engine coolant level sensor -2-  .

    1. 5.1. Pull off cable plug.
    2. 5.2. Turn the sensor on the reservoir 90° anti-clockwise (bayonet lock) and pull it out of the reservoir.
  6. Remove coolant reservoir.
    1. 6.1. Unscrew M6 collar nut on the reservoir.
    2. 6.2. Pull the reservoir out of the holder.
    3. 6.3. Guide the reservoir diagonally backwards out of the engine compartment. Press the intake air line aside.
