Installing Differential With Differential Lock

If the taper roller bearings with outer bearing shells need to be replaced, measure the differential (total disc thickness S1 and S2) and if necessary adjust. See:

Replacing taper roller bearings, see:

1. 1.1. Install left outer bearing ring (large).

   Heat cover to approx. → temperature: 120°C  . After heat exchange, insert left outer bearing ring (large) and drive in using the mandrel from special tool pull-in tool and extractor P254  and a suitable pressure piece Pressure Pieces (4) 9247  .

2. 1.2. Install right outer bearing ring (small).

   Drive in outer bearing ring with Pressure Piece 3062  and Drive-In Mandrel VW 295  as far as it will go.

Oil new O-Ring slightly.

Tighten screws for differential cover -1-  .

→ Tightening torque: 25 Nm (19 ft. lb.)
