Adjusting Hinge For Hood Compartment Lid

Information 

Two people are needed to adjust the hinges for the hood compartment lid!

1. Close hood.

   1. 1.1. Switch on ignition.
   2. 1.2. Close hood -1-  carefully -arrow-  until the hood lock -2-  is positioned against the upper cowl panel frame.
   3. 1.3. Switch off ignition.
2. Carefully fold rear hood (rear window) upwards -arrows-  .

3. Pull off seal for hood compartment lid -1-  at the left and right in the front area -arrows-  .

4. Pull off rubber sleeve -1-  from the water drip pan -2-  at the left and right -arrow-  .

5. Detach hinge and hood support.

   1. 5.1. Unscrew fastening screw -1-  at the hood support at the left and right by 3 turns.
   2. 5.2. Unscrew fastening screw -2-  at the hinge at the left and right by 3 turns.
6. Press in seal for hood compartment lid -1-  at the left and right -arrows-  .

7. Lock hood compartment lid.

   1. 7.1. Carefully move hood compartment lid -1-  forwards by hand -arrows A-  .
   2. 7.2. Lock hinges -2-  at the left and right using a Ø5 mm centering pin (shop-made tool) -3-  (-arrow B-  ).
8. Lock hood compartment lid.

   1. 8.1. Switch on ignition.
   2. 8.2. Completely close hood until the locking hook -1-  locks the hood compartment lid -2-  (-arrows-  ).
   3. 8.3. Switch off ignition.
9. Adjust hood compartment lid and hinge.

   1. 9.1. Unscrew fastening nuts -1-  at the hood compartment lid and fastening screw -2-  at the hinge at the left and right.
   2. 9.2. Check contours with respect to the side panels and the rear lid and adjust if necessary. → WM 5X00IN DIAGRAM - BODY GAP DIMENSIONS (ALL MODELS)
   3. 9.3. Tighten fastening nuts -1-  at the hood compartment lid and fastening screw -2-  at the hinge at the left and right. → Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7 ft. lb.) → Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7 ft. lb.) 
10. Release hood compartment lid.

    1. 10.1. Switch on ignition.
    2. 10.2. Open hood until the locking hook -1-  releases the hood compartment lid -2-  (-arrows-  ).
    3. 10.3. Switch off ignition.
11. Release hood compartment lid.

    1. 11.1. Remove centering pin -3-  from the hinges -2-  at the left and right -arrow A-  .
    2. 11.2. Carefully move hood compartment lid -1-  to the rear by hand -arrows B-  .
12. Pull off seal for hood compartment lid -1-  at the left and right in the front area -arrows-  .

13. Secure hinge and hood support.

    1. 13.1. Tighten fastening screw -1-  at the hood support at the left and right. → Tightening torque: 50 Nm (37 ft. lb.) 
    2. 13.2. Tighten fastening screw -2-  at the hinge at the left and right by hand.
14. Press rubber sleeve -1-  into the water drip pan -2-  at the left and right -arrow-  .

15. Fold rear hood (rear window) downwards -arrows-  .

16. Move hood to service position.
