Installing Rear Cover
Information
Processing instructions for affixing adhesive tape
Surface condition:
- Surfaces must be dry, free of dust, oil, oxide release agents and other impurities (e.g. no paint mist, no condensation)
- To remove soiling, clean the surfaces with isopropyl or another suitable cleaning agent that does not leave a residue and does not attack the substrate.
- Use clean, lint-free disposable cloths to clean the surfaces.
- Prime the bonding area and allow to dry off.
- Do not touch the bonding surfaces with your fingers.
Temperature:
- The object and ambient temperature must be at least 18 °C for bonding.
- The material temperature should be maintained so that there are no dew-point differences (no condensation)
Contact pressure :
- Press briefly and firmly on the bonding area to achieve optimal surface contact.
Optimal adhesion of the components is guaranteed after approx. 24 hours. Do not apply excessive pressure on the components and do not wash the vehicle during this period.
Information
Allow approx. 20 mm extra on top of the required lengths as a pulling aid (protective film without adhesive tape). The pulling aid makes it easier to pull off the protective film when the rear cover at the center is fitted.
- Get adhesive strips ready.
- 1.1. Cut as much of the adhesive tape -A- as you need to pull it off the protective film.
- Affix strips of adhesive tape according to the designations -A= 105 mm-
to the rear cover at the center -1-
.
Place the pulling aids -X- over the edge of the rear cover at the center.
- Install rear cover at the sides.
- 3.1. Guide in the seat belt -4- (-arrow A- ).
- 3.2. Position the rear cover -3- on the linkage and align it -arrow B- .
- 3.3. Fit fastening screws -1, 2- on the rear cover and screw in slightly.
- Install rear cover at the center.
- 4.1. Guide in rear cover -2- horizontally at the bottom -arrow A- , latch it at the bottom and then swivel it up -arrow B- .
- 4.2. Fit the fastening screw -1- on the top of the rear cover and screw in slightly.

- Secure the rear cover at the center.
- 6.1. Carefully pull out the pull tabs on the adhesive tape between the rear cover at the center -1- and the rear cover at the sides -2- (-arrows- ).
- 6.2. Press evenly and firmly on the bonding area of the rear cover at the center -1- with the ball of your hand.
- 6.3. Heat the rear cover at the center slightly with the hot-air blower and press it on.
- Install seat belt cover.
- 7.1. Check clips -2- for damage and replace them if necessary.
- 7.2. Guide the seat belt -4- through the cover -1- (-arrow- ).
- 7.3. Press the cover -1- with the locking lugs into the side trim panel -3- until it clicks into place.
- Press the seal for the convertible-top compartment lid support -1- into the rear cover -2- (-arrows- ).
