Installing Hood Frame

Information 

Ensure that the assembly aid is seated firmly. The assembly aid must be recalibrated after removal. → 610115 ADJUSTING CONVERTIBLE TOP 

1. Install the hood support.

   1. 1.1. Position the hood support -1-  on the body and on the assembly aid -arrow A-  .
   2. 1.2. Insert the belt guide section -2-  (-arrow B-  ).
   3. 1.3. Tighten fastening nuts -3-  and fastening screws -4-  . → Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ft. lb.) → Tightening torque: 50 Nm (37 ft. lb.) 

   Information 

   Use assembly grease when fitting the pins.

2. Install roof frame 2.

   1. 2.1. Insert bushing -1-  into the bore on the outer side of the roof frame (2) -2-  .
   2. 2.2. Position the roof frame (2) -2-  on the hood support -3-  (-arrow-  ) and join with the bolt -4-  .
   3. 2.3. Secure the bolt -4-  with the safety clip -5-  .

   Information 

   Use assembly grease when fitting the pins.

3. Install roof frame 3.

   1. 3.1. Insert bushing -1-  into the bore on the inside of the roof frame (3) -2-  .
   2. 3.2. Position roof frame (3) -2-  on the hood support -3-  (-arrow-  ) and join with the bolt -4-  .
   3. 3.3. Secure the bolt -4-  with the safety clip -5-  .

   Information 

   Do not replace plastic bushings individually, always replace all plastic bushings.

   Information 

   Use assembly grease when fitting the pins.

4. Install roof frame 1.
   1. 4.1. Press plastic bushing -1-  into the bore on the outside and inside of roof frame (2) -2-  and roof frame (3) -3-  (-arrows-  ).

   2. 4.2. Press plastic bushing -1-  into the bore on the outside and inside of the roof frame (1) -2-  (-arrows-  ).

      NOTE: Pins pressed in incorrectly

      • Plastic bushings can break

      → The pins must only be pressed in by hand.

      Information 

      Use assembly grease when fitting the pins.

   3. 4.3. Position roof frame (2) -1-  and roof frame (3) -2-  on roof frame (1) -3-  and join them with the bolt -4-  and -5-  (-arrow-  ).

   4. 4.4. Secure bolts -4-  and -5-  with the safety clip -6-  .
   5. 4.5. Stick foam part -1-  onto the sides of the roof frame (1) -2-  (-arrow-  ).

5. Install main folding top bow.

   1. 5.1. Position main folding top bow -1-  on the hood support -2-  .
   2. 5.2. Position square hole washer -3-  and standard washer -4-  on the main folding top bow -arrow-  .

      Information 

      Coat the fastening screw -5-  for the main folding top bow with Loctite 243  .

   3. 5.3. Secure main folding top bow -1-  with the fastening screw -5-  . → Tightening torque: 9 Nm (6.5 ft. lb.) 
6. Install corner bow.

   1. 6.1. Press bushing -1-  into the bore of the corner bow -2-  .
   2. 6.2. Position corner bow -2-  on the hood support -3-  .
   3. 6.3. Press in anti-spread lock -4-  and secure with the locking pin -arrow- 
7. Install tension bow.

   1. 7.1. Press bushing -1-  into the bore of the main folding top bow -2-  .
   2. 7.2. Position tension bow -3-  on the main folding top bow -2-  .
   3. 7.3. Press in anti-spread lock -4-  and secure with the locking pin -arrow-  .
   4. 7.4. Install spacers for the tension bow.

      1. 7.4.1. Position spacers -1-  on the tension bow -2-  and rivet on with blind rivets -3-  .
8. Install tension rope.

   1. 8.1. Press tension rope -1-  into the ball head -2-  of the tension bow -3-  (-arrow-  ).
9. Install thrust wedge.

   1. 9.1. Position thrust wedge -1-  on the inside of the main folding top bow -2-  (-arrow-  ) and secure with the fastening screws -3-  . → Tightening torque: 2.8 Nm (2 ft. lb.) 
10. Install guide rail for main folding top bow.

    1. 10.1. Position guide rail -2-  on the inside of the main folding top bow -3-  (-arrow-  ) and rivet on with the blind rivets -1-  .
11. Install drive lever.

    1. 11.1. Position drive lever -1-  on the main folding top bow -2-  (-arrow-  ) and secure with the retaining clip -3-  .
12. Install wire harness for hood. → WM 975519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WIRE HARNESS FOR CONVERTIBLE TOP - section on "Installing"
