Draining Coolant

WARNING: Hot fluid
  • Danger of scalding

→ Let the fluid cool down.

→ Wear personal protective gear.

WARNING: Caustic fluids
  • Danger of chemical burns

→ Avoid contact with caustic fluid.

→ Wear personal protective gear.

→ Ensure that there is good ventilation.

→ If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.

  1. Open the cap on the reservoir in the engine compartment.
  2. Raise the vehicle and place a collecting pan underneath.
    1. 2.1. Secure the pan to the plate on the transmission jack V.A.G 1383 WE 1082  with a tension strap.
  3. Unscrew the coolant drain plug (internal Torx, a/f 8) M14 x 1.5 -1-  at the coolant regulator housing.
    1. 3.1. Replace sealing ring.

  4. Pull off the large coolant (supply and return) hoses.
    1. 4.1. Remove moulded element -2-  and open the line bracket -3-  .
    2. 4.2. Remove the spring clamps -1-  on the Henn couplings and pull the coolant hoses out of the coolant pipes. Collect emerging coolant.
    3. 4.3. Refit the spring clamps, check O-rings on the coolant hoses and replace them if necessary.
    4. 4.4. Refit the coolant hoses after draining the coolant. The Henn couplings must lock with an audible click.
    5. 4.5. Pull to check that the line is secure.

  5. Pull off the small coolant hoses (heater, heat exchanger).
    1. 5.1. Open the spring band clamps -1 to 3-  using an assembly pliers Nr.72 Pos.2  and pull off the hoses.
    2. 5.2. Collect emerging coolant.
